Growing Bananas to Fund Advocacy Work

With a grant from the Dr.Bolton Orang Asli Trust Fund approved on May 2015, community from Kampung Orang Asli Chenawing in the state of Perak can now have firmer plans for their advocacy work in the future by generating income through banana plantation on their customary land.

The 10-acre land will provide them 3000 trees if successful. Besides bananas, there will also be corn in that land as a buffer while waiting for the bananas to mature. The grant from the Trust had helped by allowing them to purchase banana seedlings, fertiliser and equipments.

It will be a community effort and income generated from the sales of bananas will be put into the village fund.
