Supported and partially funded by the Dr.Bolton Orang Asli Trust Fund, the Indigenous Youth Wing of JOAS (Indigenous Peoples Network of Malaysia) successfully held the Indigenous Youth Leadership Camp at Kampung Orang Asli Tual in the state of Pahang in conjunction with the launch of the community learning center – Pusat Didikan Komuniti Cenwaey Penaney.
The camp was held on 19-22 March 2015 and was participated by 35 Orang Asli, mainly from Kampung Tual and others come from various villages. Objectives of the camp were to raise awareness among the young Orang Asli about their rights as indigenous people and also they were given opportunities to take up leadership roles through various aktivities and games.
One of the important sessions during the camp was the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous People (UNDRIP) which was presented and explained by Dr.Colin Nicholas – Coordinator of Center for Orang Asli Concerns (COAC). Besides UNDRIP, they were also introduced to various channels to promote and advocate their rights as Indigenous People which were shared Adrian Lasimbang from TONIBUNG and also Jenita Engi from COAC who is also the coordinator for Pusat Didikan Komuniti Cenwaey Penaney.
